MESSAGE FROM THE PYP CURRICULUM COORDINATOR (PYPCC)
PYPX Success
On May 31, PYP6 completed their Exhibition, marking the culmination of their learning journey in the PYP. This inquiry-based learning experience integrates and showcases various forms of learning the students have developed, including ATL skills, learner profile attributes, and academic knowledge. During the Exhibition, students research an issue of their choice, either locally or globally, and link it to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. After investigating the issue, they identify opportunities for meaningful and sustainable action to bring about positive change in the local community or globally.
The PYP6 students were extremely focused and dedicated throughout the year, particularly in the final term, ensuring they presented their best work. Their hard work led to a highly successful exhibition, and we are very proud of their efforts.
MAP Assessments
From May 13 to 24, all students in PYP completed their third and final MAP assessments of the year. Students demonstrated focus and determination to achieve their personal best. These results provide valuable insights for teachers on the progress made throughout the year and offer detailed information to the next teachers on areas of strength and where additional support is needed.
PYP4 Unit in Action
For the PYP4 Unit in Action, students organised an Economic Fair, successfully bringing classroom concepts to life. Students showcased their understanding of money and economic activities through interactive, real-world scenarios. They enthusiastically managed booths, sold handmade goods, and provided services, applying their knowledge engagingly and practically. The money collected was dedicated to a noble cause; we proudly donated to Mpagala Primary School in Kiboga to help build a new classroom, with the remaining funds used for our end-of-year class party. The students gained valuable insights into economic principles and the importance of charity. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the parents for their unwavering support and contributions.
Looking Ahead
Next academic year, we will focus on building a strong sense of community and character among our students, emphasising initiatives centred on kindness and respect. By doing so, we aim to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. We will further explore the well-being of our students and community, ensuring everyone is supported to perform at their best. Additionally, we will continue to recognise students who exemplify the Acorns values and Learner Profile Attributes, challenging every student to reach their fullest potential.
IB Professional Development
Our teachers have recently attended various IB professional development sessions, gaining valuable ideas and insights on enhancing their teaching methods. Consequently, we have restructured our teaching assignments, with some teachers moving to different year bands for the upcoming academic year. We believe these changes will infuse creativity and fresh perspectives into the learning environment. We encourage you to collaborate closely with your child’s teachers to ensure the best possible outcomes for your child.
